SoM

The School of Mathematics at The University of Edinburgh is situated in the James Clerk Maxwell Building within the King's Buildings campus. There are over 50 academic and related staff and around 60 research students. The School also runs a number of MSc programmes. Undergraduate courses are given to around 2000 students in any one year.





CfS

Centre for Statistics unites data-driven researchers from across Edinburgh. The Centre promotes Statistics and its applications, the development and application of novel statistical techniques, and it leads the organization of a variety of Statistics-related events, such as David Finney Lectures, Statistics Afternoons, and Research Days. The Centre has more than 70 members from a variety of data-driven fields, and it has a Statistical Consultancy Unit providing bespoke consultancy and training.





Bayes

The Bayes Centre is the University of Edinburgh's Innovation Hub for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. The technical strengths brought together in the Bayes Centre build on world-leading academic excellence in the mathematical, computational, engineering, and natural sciences in the University of Edinburgh's College of Science and Engineering. The Bayes Centre offers a new kind of collaborative, multidisciplinary proving ground where we develop innovative technological solutions for the benefit of society.





ICMS

International Centre for Mathematical Sciences stimulates and promotes the mathematical sciences through diverse international workshops and conferences. Our vibrant events programme attracts leading mathematical scientists from the UK and internationally - connecting mathematical communities across the world. As a response to COVID, we are now experienced in organising and hosting virtual events, alongside in-person ones.





Maxwell

Maxwell Institute for Mathematical Sciences combines mathematical research and graduate training in the School of Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh and the Departments of Mathematics and of Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics at Heriot-Watt University. The Maxwell Institute builds on the long history of collaboration between the three departments, best exemplified by the establishment and continued operation of the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS).





HW

Actuarial Mathematics & Statistics Department at the Heriot-Watt University is a world-leading centre of teaching and research in actuarial mathematics, financial mathematics, risk management, probability and statistics. Heriot-Watt was the first in the UK to offer a specialised programme in actuarial mathematics. Their BSc and MSc actuarial programmes are all fully accredited by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA). Their full suite of undergraduate programmes is accredited by the Royal Statistical Society.





ASA

The American Statistical Association is the world’s largest community of statisticians, the “Big Tent for Statistics.” It is the second-oldest, continuously operating professional association in the country. Since it was founded in Boston in 1839, the ASA has supported excellence in the development, application, and dissemination of statistical science through meetings, publications, membership services, education, accreditation, and advocacy.

Founded in 1834, the The Royal Statistical Society are one of the world’s leading organisations advocating for the importance of statistics and data. With members in the UK and across the world, they are a professional body for all statisticians and data analysts. They advocate for the key role of statistics and data in society, and work to ensure that policy formulation and decision making are informed by evidence for the public good.
